Happy Birthday, America!

When the 4th of July arrived, we were very excited to be back in the U.S. as the kids have really missed seeing the fireworks for the past two years. (I still find it funny that we lived in the country that the U.S. declared their independence from 233 years ago.) ;o) The rain was definitely a bummer during the day as we had planned to swim all day; however we were very thankful that it stopped just in time for the fireworks to take place. We headed down to the East Peoria side of the riverfront, had a picnic in the canyonero (aka, Mike's excursion), and then watched the fireworks from the car (as the fireworks were literally being set off straight ahead of us). It worked out great as we were able to spend the entire day together playing games, we enjoyed a pinic dinner together, watched the fireworks and then darted out of town before getting stuck in atroceous traffic. The kids had a blast sitting on top of the vehicle watching the fireworks, listening to music, and yelling "Happy Birthday, America" and "God Bless America"! We hope everyone had as happy of a 4th of July as we did.

It did feel great being back in the USA to celebrate the 4th. We ended up going to the Peoria side and sitting by the Gateway building with the boys, my parents, and Dan's older boys plus a girlfriend. It was so much fun to see how the boys reacted to the huge fireworks. Can't wait to see you on Thursday!
